Mid Week Devotional from Thomas Tulloch
During these past few months of isolation, my wife and I have deeply missed being able to connect with our church family. However, these unprecedented times have given us the opportunity as a family to participate in “home church”. My wife and I thought that it would be a great time to teach our three and five year old about the various aspects of God’s character. We have made these lessons into a fun and creative time with crafts and snacks to help drive home the idea. The kids still have the shields they made during the “God is our shield” lesson and they remember leading their stuffed sheep around the house during the “God is our Shepherd” lesson.
One of the passages that we have come back to time and time again is Psalm 18:2 because it is so rich in its description of God. It says:
The LORD is my rock and my fortress and my deliverer,
My God is my rock, in whom I take refuge;
My shield and the horn of my salvation, my stronghold.
We are thankful that in this crazy time that God would direct us to do this as a family. While it has been beneficial for our kids to learn more about who God is, it has also been helpful for my wife and I, to remind ourselves what an awesome and powerful God we serve. Psalm 18 was written by David at a time when he also had to overcome trying times. I hope that at the end of the pandemic we can all echo David’s Psalm and continue to praise the Lord for His perfect and holy character.
