“JUST GO QUIETLY ON”
I came across this phrase while scrolling through Facebook the other day. A woman was asking her elderly mother to explain what this phrase meant. It seems that through the years whenever family or friends would come to her and ask advice when having problems or troubles, when everything was overwhelming, she would simply say ……”Just go quietly on”.
As you know, we live in a very noisy world; a world that is so busy and chaotic. There are storms raging with thunder and lightning, and all kinds of trouble, and we just don’t know what to do.
But we need to remember we belong to the Lord; He holds our hand and goes with us, and we are not alone. So whatever is happening in our world…..”We just go quietly on”. We need to just rest in him. Our father is holding our hand, and we don’t have to be scared of anything. The truth is that there is a wonderful peace that comes when the Lord Jesus lives in our heart. People are trying to find peace in this world, anywhere and everywhere, but they can’t find it no matter where they look, and they never will!!!
Our God is the only one who gives peace. In the bible it says, “Thou wilt keep him in perfect peace whose mind is stayed on thee because he trusteth in thee.” Isaiah 26:3 (KJV). So whatever is going on in the world, or in your life, and you belong to him, there is quietness….because in God’s presence there is quiet, there is rest.
I need to say here that it is just a matter of time before our Lord returns!!! We are waiting for our Lord’s return!!! And as we are waiting, we need to rest in his presence….in quietness. This is not just a physical rest. Jesus said, “Come unto me, all ye that labour and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest.” Matt. 11:28 (KJV). This rest is not only physical but spiritual and emotional. Jesus is saying….”Come unto me”.
You know, one of these days He is going to come back and we are waiting for him! So, just rest and wait. Just go quietly on. Isaiah 40:31 says “They that wait upon the Lord shall renew their strength, they shall mount with wings as eagles, they shall run and not be weary, they shall walk and not faint.” So don’t cave in!
We are waiting in expectation of our Lord’s return! Another way of describing that waiting, or anticipation, is that we are on our “tippy toes” looking for our Lord to return. Jesus has promised and He is a promise keeping God. He does not change! (Hebrews 13:8) (NIV) He will never leave us or forsake us! (Deut. 31:6) (NIV). He is coming back and while we are waiting we have that peace and quietness now. I say it again…. Just go quietly on.
God is saying to us, “It’s ok my child, I am here, I am handling things”. Do you know who is saying that? It’s the Creator of the universe, the Lord God Almighty!! And since He created everything, He can certainly handle our problems. What a wonderful reality God gives to every child of his! The peace of God, (John 14:27), and the rest of God. (Psalm 62:1) (NIV)
